Ambassador Program

The full fine print,
in plain English.

How to post, what you earn, when you get paid, what to disclose. If something isn't answered here, get in touch.

1. Getting started

Everything you need to know before you apply and what you'll get when you're in.

What is the Graphed Threads ambassador program?
It's our word-of-mouth program. You share Graphed Threads with your audience, and you earn $2.50 flat on every product sold through your link. We plant a tree for every product sold, so your referrals also put forests in the ground.
Who can apply? Is it just influencers?
No — we approve anyone with genuine engagement, not just big accounts. Climate scientists with a Substack, a teacher with an active X presence, a city-level Instagram page, a newsletter about local weather — these all work better than a generic 500k-follower lifestyle account. Honest voice beats follower count.
How long does approval take?
Usually 1–3 business days. We review your socials to confirm they match what you told us. If you are approved, your dashboard and referral link are live immediately.
What do I get when I'm accepted?
A unique referral URL (graphedthreads.com/a/<your-slug>), a dashboard showing clicks/conversions/earnings, $2.50 per product sold through your link, and a tree planted in your name for every product sold (shown on the dashboard).
Can I customize my storefront?
Yes. Your /a/<slug> page lets you set a custom header, a short bio, and feature up to 12 products you want to highlight. Edit any of it from the Page tab in the dashboard.

2. Creating content & posting

This is the important section. The more you post, the more you earn — and the more trees we plant. Here's what actually works.

What should I post about?
Lead with specifics. Your hometown's warming-stripes shirt is more compelling than a generic product shot. Examples that work: 'I designed a shirt from Atlanta's last 100 years of climate data — here's what the line is telling me.' A timelapse of customizing a product for your zipcode. A side-by-side of the warming stripes for the city you grew up in vs. where you live now. The tree-planting impact (one product = one tree) is a legit hook on its own.
What platforms work best?
Instagram Reels and TikTok dominate because the visual product does the work for you. X/Threads is great for climate-science audiences. YouTube Shorts works for explainer-style content. Pinterest surprises people — climate infographics index well. Newsletters and blogs convert at higher rates because readers trust the writer.
Do you have post templates I can copy?
Yes. We maintain a curated set internally and surface them in your ambassador dashboard — short caption templates for Instagram, voiceover scripts for TikTok, post copy for X/Threads, and intro paragraphs for newsletters. They're updated as we learn what converts. Look for the Templates tab once you're approved.
What video formats work?
Three formats we see convert: (1) 15-second 'design your city' screen-capture — you open the site, type your zipcode, show the graph render. (2) Unboxing + 'what this line actually means' explainer. (3) 'Before you scroll, look at this' hook reel using the warming-stripes visual.
Any photography tips?
Wear the product outdoors at the location the graph represents — a Chicago warming-stripes shirt photographed on a Chicago rooftop lands harder than a studio shot. Natural light. Frame so the chart is legible. Avoid busy backgrounds that compete with the print.
Can I run paid ads (Meta, TikTok, Google)?
Yes on Meta and TikTok, with proper disclosure (boosted posts need the paid-partnership label, not just a hashtag). Not on Google Search or YouTube for ads bidding on the terms "Graphed Threads" or variants — we reserve those for the brand. You can bid on generic terms like "climate apparel" or "warming stripes shirt".
Can I use Graphed Threads' product photos?
Yes. Credit @graphedthreads where applicable, don't alter the chart or remove the brand, and don't present them as your own original photography.
When should I post? Content-calendar triggers.
Earth Day (April 22), the day your region hits its annual heat/cold record, IPCC report releases, big climate-news moments (hurricanes, heat domes, cold snaps), holiday gift-giving windows (November–December). Locally-relevant climate news is the single best trigger — post the same day.
What shouldn't I post?
No fabricated urgency ('only 3 left!' unless it's actually true). No fake testimonials. No undisclosed sponsored content. No buying followers/engagement. No implying Graphed Threads endorses a political candidate or party. No spammy DMs — we will remove ambassadors for abusing our brand.

3. How you earn

The money math. No tiers, no surprises.

How much do I earn per sale?
$2.50 flat on every product in every attributed order. A customer who buys three products earns you $7.50. Shirts, hoodies, accessories, future drops — all the same flat rate.
Do I earn on shipping or tax?
No — commission is per product only. Shipping and tax are excluded from the calculation.
Does the customer have to check out from my storefront page?
No. Once they click your link, you're credited for anything they buy on graphedthreads.com for the next 30 days, even if they navigate away to the homepage or a different product. Last-click wins.
What happens if a customer clicks multiple ambassadors?
Last click wins. The most recent click in the 30-day window is the one we credit. If they clicked you yesterday and someone else today, the next purchase goes to the other ambassador.
Can I refer myself?
No. We check both user account identity and IP/fingerprint at checkout. Self-referred orders get an unattributed status — no commission, and repeat attempts are flagged.

4. Payouts & taxes

When money moves from "earned" to "in your bank account".

When do I get paid?
Commissions clear 35 days after the purchase date (after the refund window closes). Once cleared, they're batched and paid on the next payout run, which happens on a regular schedule.
What's the minimum payout?
$25. If your cleared balance is below that, it rolls over to the next run. No fees deducted, no expiry.
How do payouts work mechanically?
Via Stripe Connect Express. We create your Stripe account at signup; you finish onboarding with Stripe directly (their flow, not ours — identity verification, bank account linking). Once Stripe says you're payout-enabled, you're in.
Do I need a business entity (LLC, sole prop, etc.)?
No. Stripe Connect Express supports sole proprietors using your SSN. If you'd rather operate under an EIN, you can during onboarding.
What about taxes? Will I get a 1099?
For US ambassadors earning $600+ in a calendar year, Stripe files a 1099-NEC on our behalf — no action required from us. You'll receive it from Stripe directly. Keep your address up to date in your Stripe account.
What if a payout fails?
We log the failure to the audit trail, revert the affected ledger rows to cleared, and retry on the next scheduled run. You'll see the affected commission stay in your cleared balance. If it keeps failing, reach out — it's usually a Stripe account issue (documents needed, bank disconnected).

6. Refunds, voids & chargebacks

What happens to your commission when an order goes sideways.

What if the customer refunds during the 35-day window?
The commission is voided before it clears. No payout for that order. No deduction from your balance — we just don't pay the pending amount.
What if someone refunds AFTER I've been paid?
For the current program version, we absorb the loss. No clawback from your account. (This may change once refund volume justifies it; we'll announce any change in advance with 30 days' notice.)
Partial refunds — do I get partial commission?
Currently all-or-nothing: any refund on the order voids the entire order's commission. This is probably unfair in some edge cases (a 3-item order with 1 item refunded kills commission for the other 2) and we're tracking it as a known limitation.
Chargebacks?
Treated the same as refunds — if the chargeback happens during the 35-day window, the commission is voided. After the window, it stays as-is.

7. Your dashboard

Every number on your dashboard, explained.

What does 'Pending clearing' mean?
Commission you've earned on orders that are still inside the 35-day refund window. This number can go up (new orders) or down (refunds void entries) before it clears.
What does 'Cleared' mean?
Commission that has passed the 35-day window and is waiting to be paid out on the next batch run. It will move to 'Paid' when the transfer happens.
What does 'Paid' mean?
Transferred to your Stripe Connect account. Stripe handles the final bank transfer on their own schedule (usually 2–7 business days).
Clicks vs. conversions — what each one counts.
A click is one valid tap on your /a/<slug> link (we filter bots, iframe stuffing, and duplicate clicks from the same session). A conversion is an attributed order that successfully cleared checkout. Your conversion rate = conversions / clicks.
Where do I see individual orders?
The Ledger tab shows every commission entry you've earned, with order ID, amount, status (pending/cleared/paid/voided), and the date.

8. Support & off-boarding

How to get help, update details, or leave the program.

Something looks wrong on my dashboard — who do I contact?
Email support via our Contact page. Include your ambassador slug and the specific order/date/amount in question. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
How do I update my Stripe account or bank info?
Click the Stripe onboarding link in your dashboard. Stripe handles the update flow directly — we don't store your banking details.
Can I pause my account without leaving?
Not as a self-service feature yet. Email us and we can suspend new referral tracking while leaving your balance intact.
How do I leave the program?
Email us. On the next payout cycle, we'll clear and pay your current pending + cleared balance. Your referral link will stop attributing new orders from that point.
